1. Luno to offer bitcoin-to-fiat transfers for shoppers at Pick n Pay stores in South Africa

South Africans can now pay at Pick n Pay with Bitcoin by scanning a QR code. Luno’s country manager for South Africa, Christo de Wit, announced that customers can now use their Luno app to make a quick and easy Bitcoin payment at the store. The service will be available at hypermarkets, supermarkets, Express stores, and Pick n Pay Clothing within the next week. Read More.

2. Report: Nigerian Central Bank Sued for Dollarizing Economy

Nigerian human rights activist Femi Falana is suing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for allegedly dollarizing the economy and failing to stop economic agents from demanding U.S. dollars for domestic transactions. Falana believes the CBN’s failure to perform its statutory obligations has led to the constant devaluation, depreciation, and unending plunge of the naira. Read more.


3. Jack Dorsey’s Btrust Acquires African Bitcoin Talent Developer Qala

Bitcoin non-profit Btrust has acquired Qala, an organization that trains African Bitcoin and Lightning engineers. The acquisition, which could be seen as a synergistic acquisition, aims to advance Bitcoin development in Africa. The Qala program will shift focus to open-source training and invite senior African software developers to participate in Bitcoin and Lightning development. Read more.
