Hello African Bitcoiners,
Africa has immense potential in unlocking the power of Bitcoin, but we must address the lag in Lightning Network adoption to fully harness the benefits of this revolutionary technology. We’re excited to introduce our new blog, the Lightning Network in Africa, where we want to help build a community of individuals, businesses, and organizations who leverage Lightning Network for faster, scalable, and cost-effective Bitcoin transactions.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new blog, Lightning Network in Africa. Our mission is to drive Bitcoin adoption in Africa and promote financial freedom by running Lightning nodes in every African country. Africa has enormous potential, but we currently lag behind in Lightning node adoption, limiting the benefits that Bitcoin can bring to our communities. To bridge this gap, we believe in the power of education, empowerment, community involvement, partnerships, and advocacy.
The Lightning Network in Africa Blog will serve as a platform to provide educational and informative content on the topic of Lightning Network and its progress in Africa. We are excited to kick off our blog with a recap of our recent lightning webinar, highlighting the key takeaways and insights discussed during the session. This will give you a glimpse into the exciting developments happening in our community.
Stay tuned every Tuesday for new posts covering a wide range of lightning-related topics.
Here are some interesting news from the African Bitcoin space:
1. Bitcoin Payments App Strike Expands to More Than 65 Countries From Three
Strike, a Bitcoin-focused payments firm, is expanding its app to more than 65 countries from the current U.S. and El Salvador base. The app uses Bitcoin and Lightning – a secondary network for cheaper and faster Bitcoin transactions – to offer global payment and cross-border money transfer services. The app now sports a new user interface and gives users the ability to hold funds in Bitcoin (BTC) and tether (USDT). Strike’s vice president of product, Manuela Rios, said the app’s new user interface will feature a seamless onboarding experience, something the company has been working on for years. Read more.

3. Bitcoin Sparks Massive Interest Among Billion-Dollar Companies and BRICS Nations, Driving Speculation on BTC’s Profit Potential Against the USD
Bitcoin (BTC) users in Africa are increasingly moving to the Lightning Network and stablecoins as transaction fees have soared to their highest level in two years. This is due to the introduction of ordinals on Bitcoin. This protocol allows for the creation of non-fungible tokens and BRC-20 tokens, associated with some memecoins, on the Bitcoin network. Traders are also affected, as most exchanges don’t yet have Lightning and some trades are too expensive to settle. The Bitcoin fees have increased significantly, leading to less decentralization of the African network. Transactions have been congested or liquidity has run dry, and users of the Muun wallet have been charged high fees due to congestion on the mempool. However, many in Africa see the fee increase as a potential net benefit for adoption, as it supercharges the shift towards Lightning network integration and other solutions. Read More.
