1. Africa Free Routing is growing at a mind-blowing rate
In a remarkable development, Africa Free Routing has been experiencing an astonishing surge in growth. The network’s capacity has reached an impressive milestone of 736,687,093, while the number of available channels has skyrocketed to a staggering 193. This expansion signifies the increasing popularity and adoption of Africa Free Routing across the continent. The unprecedented growth reflects the network’s robustness and highlights the growing demand for efficient and reliable communication infrastructure in Africa. Open a channel with us today.
2. Kenya’s Bitcoin DADA Graduates Latest Cohort of Women Bitcoiners on Africa Bitcoin Day
Bitcoin DADA, a women-centric entity that is working to educate African women into Bitcoin, celebrated its 1 year anniversary on Africa Bitcoin Day on May 27 2023. The program has trained two cohorts of students with 45 graduating, organized Bitcoin-only meetups in Nairobi, Kenya, helped some students start accepting Bitcoin as a payment option, and recommended students to Bitcoin companies for employment. The program has also received a grant from the Human Rights Foundation for $10,000 for spearheading the Bitcoin education program in Kenya. Read more.
3. South Africa Joins Nigeria with New Banknotes to Tackle Counterfeiting
South Africa has released new banknotes and coins to fight counterfeiting and keep up with technology. The notes contain enhanced security features, including color-changing ink, and retain the image of Nelson Mandela. The notes are also rolling out in Namibia, Eswatini, and Lesotho, which are in a common monetary area with South Africa. In November 2022, the Central Bank of Nigeria unveiled re-designed notes to replace the previous N1,000, N500, and N200 notes. Still, the government came under pressure when it set a deadline of January 31, 2023, for the termination of the old notes. The two countries were in the headlines after the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) added them to its ‘grey list’. Read more.
